no. 15.90 cedar/quilted maple/cocobolo X-braced double-backed 650mm scale

This was custom made to a shape especially for the customer Paul Karas.

The body size falls somewhere between the 08 and 12 shapes.

This guitar has a second internal back made of Cocobolo, which imparts some rosewood attack to what would otherwise be all-maple smoothness. The outer maple back was well supported with two X braces to prevent it from interfering too much with the interior Cocobolo one. An ebony nut was used, providing a visually smooth transition from the fingerboard to the specially designed head. As on the previous maple guitar which I built for Paul Karas, I used a double-depth ebony binding to frame the beautiful grain of the quilted maple.

The neck and a balancing end block are made of a heavy mahogany. The sound is rich with the tone colours provided by this blend of timbers, and has lots of sustain and volume ( considering its small size), plenty of "bite", but sweetness too in the trebles, and a profound bass.

The designing and building of this guitar was somewhat of an experiment on behalf of both customer and maker, but an experiment which has proved very successfull!
