Guitar No. 18/119
8-string Roudhloff model. 600mm scale-length. Spruce top, birdseye/blister maple back and sides. Rosette and front purfling ebony/sycamore. Ebony bindings and head veneer.
This guitar was commissioned in 2017 by Douglas Rogers, who already owns an 8-string Roudhloff copy made by Gary Southwell. Douglas asked me to make something using the same body shape and scale-length, with different materials, and employing my own X-braced design for supporting the top. This X- bracing was itself inspired by a Roudhloff guitar, and I have used it in the past in most of my various guitar body shapes. However, this is the first time I have used it in a Roudhloff body, so I was particularly pleased to have the opportunity to make this guitar.
